FILMMAKER ADO HASANOVIC DIRECTED A FILM ON FAMILY VIOLENCE

Ado Hasanovic, a Sarajevo award-winning director, made a short film called “Mama” as part of his graduate thesis at the Sarajevo Film Academy (SFA). The film will premiere at the 19th Sarajevo Film Festival.

Hasanović received the theme of the film from the Academy. The task was to tell a story of a person who gets out of jail and the events that take place 24 hours after release. “I’ve thought long and conducted research about what to do. This topic is challenging and difficult, as much as you think it is easy to do. I randomly found an article in the newspaper about a woman who killed her husband, and this same story was told to me in detail by an acquaintance. I got the inspiration for the script, which I wrote with Mohammadrez Farzad, a student at Film.factory in Sarajevo’’, said Hasanović, who also explained how this film is the result of his three-year study at SFA.

“I made this film about violence in a family because this happens every day in families all over the world. This film is important because I am showing that any violence to anyone brings harm and misfortune. It is a problem that is widespread but not widely discussed in this part of the world. Over the past few years I have researched the subject of family violence, academically and in the field. A real life article inspired this film. My approach shows the chain of violence in a family, and open ended consequences. My perspective is founded on my strong abhorrence of injustice.” Ado Hasanovic
